This is a 4-day intensive throwing course for those looking to get familiar with the wheel, or develop their throwing skills further.

We will begin by focusing on developing strong throwing skills: centering, pulling up the walls, shaping (cylinders and bowls) and finishing on the wheel. 

You will then learn turning (trimming) a pot - this is the method of finishing thrown work once leather hard (partly dried) by returning it to the wheel and removing excess clay using a metal tool.  

We will explore surface decoration - carving and slip decoration techniques.

Is clay included?

Clay is charged at £4 per kilo for whatever you decide to fire.

We give you a selection of glazes to chose from and we will glaze and fire your pieces. Once everything is fired they are dishwasher safe and oven proof. Please note that the firing process can take 4 weeks.

Do I need experience in throwing?
Some knowledge of throwing would be needed. Please not this course is not suitable for students going on the wheel for the first time.

What should I bring?
Please bring an apron and a small towel. We do have a selection of tools but you may wish to bring your own.

What is the size of the class?
This class caters for 8 students.
